Announcement of Race 2009

Friday 17th July – Saturday 1st August 2009

Event sponsorship is in the process of re-negotiation as new sponsors are sought - new arrangements and the Notice of Race will be published as soon as possible

The Event
The event builds on the highly successful image and reputation of the BALTIC SPRINT CUP sailed annually since 2005 for racing and cruiser/racer yachts in the Baltic region - competition, friendship, great racing and excellent stopovers and parties are the hallmarks. The 2009 event will comprise the longest offshore raceing continuous series in the Baltic Sea.  The RORC has approved the event as an experience qualification for the Fastnet Race 2009 (provided the BSCcrew has at least half of the Fastnet crew including the skipper).

§2 Provisional Shoreside Programme

The general Check-In Desk at Warnemünde will be open from Thursday July 16th 2009.
The usual series of excellent parties will be announced.

§3 Eligibility

An eligible boat shall:-

  • have a minimum LOA of 30ft
  • comply with ISAF (International Sailing Federation) OSRs (Offshore Special Regulations) Category 3 plus liferaft
  • have a rating certificate for
    • the racer (IRC) division of min. 1.000 TCC or
    • the cruiser (ORC Club) division with max 650 GPH.

§4 Rules

The event will be governed by the RRS with ISAF Offshore Special Regulations (OSRs) for Category 3 plus liferaft:

$5 Crew

A minimum of four. There is no restriction on changes during the event.

§6 Race Results

Time-on-time using the TCC (IRC) or TMF (ORC Club)

§7 Prizes, Trophies and Special Awards

  • The Baltic Sprint Cup Award – best IRC skipper on points for last two events combined  (2008 and 2009)
  • Youth Award of the Stiftung Hochseesegeln Hamburg
  • Team Award - best teams and the
  • Baltic Sprint Cup Speed Award: for the yacht with the fastest average speed, all legs completed, regardless of division.

Prizes for each division at the end of each leg.
Plus other awards to be announced.

§8 Entry fees

The entry fee for each boat will depend on the boat size, starting at EUR 1.700  (there is no crew fee anymore as in the previous events). Discounts and a free draw will be available for early payers.

§9 Advertising, Media and Copyright

Category C: The event is open to all boats including those with advertising under ISAF category C. Every boat will be required to carry bow numbers and/or an advertising sticker within 20% of the hull length from the bow, on each bow during the event plus a backstay flag.

§10 International Jury

An International Jury will be appointed whose decisions will be final as provided in RRS 70.4.

11 Parades of Sail and Dressing Overall

  • A boat may be requested by the organizers to take part in a Parade of Sail en route from her moorings to a starting area.
  • Boats are recommended to have on board a set of flags for “dressing overall”. These may be used at any of the event ports.

§12 Fleet Tracker beacons

It is the intention of the organizers to issue yachts at Warnemünde with a self-contained tracker beacon on loan working on a system owned by the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the OC Group.

§13 Register your interest!

In case your boat has participated in the previous Baltic Sprint Cups, just write us an email with the boat name and sail-no.. If not please give us some essential details about your yacht such as LoA, GPH or TCC. Don’t forget your address and phone number. We will reply as soon as possible.
